IWCF Well Control Level 5
Duration: 5 days
About this course
This course is aimed at experienced and knowledgeable candidates who play a critical role in well design and the approval of well designs. The program recognizes the impact that design, planning and programming of well operations can have on well integrity assurance throughout the well life cycle.
This 5-day course enhances delegates’ skills to design the well and the well activities including ongoing maintenance of well control and integrity. It addresses skills to identify and to specify actions to be taken when stepping outside of the normal operating envelope, particularly actions required to maintain well control and integrity. The learning outcome is for delegates to be capable of planning and performing safe well design and/or intervention operations that maintain well control and integrity and can evaluate technically on deviations to the well operations plan and advise accordingly.
Team-based scenario exercises on a full-scale simulator are mandatory part of the IWCF level 5 syllabus. The course also includes an element of pre-work and candidates will complete a case study project that together with the written assessment will count towards the final mark.
The course content follows the guidelines of the IOGP 476 report and IWCF expects the employer working together with the training provider for detailed content.
Well related discipline engineers who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in planning and performing safe well design and/or intervention operations to ensure well control and well integrity is maintained throughout the well life cycle. Key engineering and technical authority positions in drilling or well intervention operations who already hold a Level 4 certification are strongly encouraged to attend this course:
- Drilling engineers
- Completion engineers
- Drilling superintendents
- Wells managers
- Wells team leaders
- Well intervention engineers
- Technical authorities
- Well examiners
Ideally candidates must have successfully completed and hold a current IWCF Level 4 certificate in either Drilling Well Control or Well Intervention Pressure Control. Candidates not holding an IWCF Level 4 (or IADC equivalent) certificate will have the opportunity to apply for exemption but will only be granted based on evidence of previous training and experience gained documented by certificates.
Candidates must pass the written assessment and case study project with a minimum score of 70%. The certificate has no expiry date, however IWCF recommends level 5 candidates attend suitable repeat training and assessment every 5 years.
